Dear Mark,

I felt compelled to write after watching the harrowingly disturbing Relic, which captures the tragic disintegration of the Self associated with age-related cognitive decline. The gradual process of defamiliarisation will strike a chord with anyone who has witnessed such cruelty, with the sense of the unhemlich becoming a relentless assault on the victim, and those surrounding them. Drawing attention to life's terminal deterioration in such a haunting picture helps shine a light on the often unwitnessed and misunderstood plight of both victim and the carer as they navigate a labrynthine psychogeography. Deeply disturbing, but simultaneously compassionate and empathetic: essential viewing.
